Wood, plastic, metal and transparent adhesive c-print collage on glass
-
While organizing memory we tend to open drawers and re-understand things collected or bought from different time. How every word written in letters form stories; how the souvenirs pairs of chopsticks received from wedding remind memory?
Diaries, drawers, bookcases and mailboxes are four basic tools for storage and transmission of messages. Everyone should have diverse interpretation when using them. I therefore decided to trace four types of people. Having a visit at a friend’s home, I took photos of his bookcase in the sitting room; I surfed on web while I read over and downloaded a stranger’s diary; a day my parents being out, I open their drawer and I discovered shadows of them and more of mine; I also wrote letters to myself to own mailbox as reflection to all of the above. Tracing a friend, a stranger, parents and myself, like peep others’ memory, as well as watching symbolic meanings of many kinds. This way of overstepping someone’s authority provides me a chance to realize something which is not easily spoken. It is so cold and detached in front of the public. This is privacy.
By using the previous techniques of doing collage on glass fundamentally, it ties in handmade sculpture of a diary, a drawer, a small bookcase and a mailbox as use of frames. At the same time, applying photos taken from the four types of people, those memory and symbols accompany with a letter to my own.
